Lead work, welded and dressed.

Specialist lead work across Kent, for chimneys, valleys, parapets, bay tops and every awkward detail a roof throws up. Lead is where most leaks actually start, and it is the part of the trade that separates a roof that holds from one that gets patched every winter.

What’s included

Specialist Lead Work done properly.

Chimney Flashing

Front aprons, side soakers and back gutters cut in, dressed and pointed so water is thrown clear of the stack.

Valleys & Gutters

Lead-lined valleys and box gutters formed in the right code and length, with proper laps and expansion allowed for.

Welded Detail

Lead-welded corners and joints where a folded detail would not hold, on parapets, dormers and awkward abutments.

Bays, Porches & Dormers

Small lead roofs and cheeks dressed and finished neatly, on the parts of the house people actually look at.

Questions

Straight answers, no waffle.

Water is coming in around my chimney, is that the lead?

Nine times out of ten, yes. Failed or badly fitted flashing at the stack is the single most common source of a leak. It is usually a same-week fix rather than anything to do with the rest of the roof.

Can lead flashing be repaired or does it need replacing?

It depends what has failed. Cracked or split lead and mortar that has blown out usually mean replacing that section, because patching a tired flashing rarely lasts. We will tell you which yours needs after a look.

What is the difference between lead and the cheaper alternatives?

Self-adhesive flashing tapes have their place on small jobs, but they do not last like lead and they look it. On a period Kent property or anything you want to leave alone for thirty years, lead is the right call.

Why does lead need welding?

Where two sheets meet on a corner, an upstand or a complex abutment, a folded joint will eventually work loose. Lead welding fuses them into one piece so there is nothing left to open up.

Do you work on listed and conservation-area property?

Yes. Traditional lead detailing is exactly what conservation officers expect to see on older Kent property, and it is the way we would do it anyway.
